New Year, Same Amaryllis

In News by Lutyens RubinsteinLeave a Comment

Like many people, I spend January having a good clear out. The difference between myself and the devotees of Marie Kondo, however, is that I am clearing the shelves of the shop for the joy-sparking influx of new titles which will be appearing over the coming month.

January brings the pleasure of new titles popping up like the first budding snowdrops, and of the previous year’s favourites now reappearing in paperback like the camellia japonica in my winter garden.

However, before I look forward I have completed my customary looking back, sorting the wheat from the chaff and selecting my favourite reads of last year. As usual I have made two preliminary lists of 10 books, one of books published last year and the other of older books read for the first time. I have then whittled the lists down to create the ultimate Top Ten reads of 2017. However, I can’t promise that they are all in print at time of going to press but hopefully publishers will take note…

In no particular order, list of books published 2016/17

Older books first read 2017

Ultimate Top Ten

I am also including an additional list this year due to an increased number of children’s books read following the setting up of T’s wonderful Adults Reading Children’s Books bookgroup. I have enjoyed them all but had not read those listed below before and they are just so enjoyable!

But now, off with the old and let’s look forward to even better reading in 2018 (and better news and everything really…)

About Amaryllis

Amaryllis is our bookshop blogger.

Her pen name is taken from Alice Thomas Ellis’ Other Side of the Fire, which is unfortunately and scandalously out of print. One of the funniest bits in the book is the bodice-ripper that one of the characters is writing and the female - who slays the men with one toss of her raven locks and one glance from her fiery green eyes as she strides among the glens, faithful wolfhound by her side - is Amaryllis! And the name just seemed to suit so here we are.
