L&R Customers’ Choice: Clodagh

In News by Lutyens RubinsteinLeave a Comment

We have asked some of our regular customers to curate a display of their favourite books for the shop. We’ll be updating the display, and the list on the website weekly. If you would like to buy or reserve any of these books please call the shop on 020 7229 1010, or email

Our next display is chosen by Clodagh, who has taken a theme of books she would like her godchildren to read. She says: ” This is the sort of thing that I could have taken days or months to do so I tried to do it quickly to see what bubbled to the surface. There are about 3072 more on the long short-list!”:

  • Little Women – Louisa May Alcott
  • Metroland – Julian Barnes
  • Riders – Jilly Cooper
  • Tender is the Night – F Scott Fitzgerald
  • Le Grand Meaulnes – Alain Fournier
  • Old Filth – Jane Gardam
  • Good Behaviour – Molly Keane
  • Catch 22 – Joseph Heller
  • A Moveable Feast – Ernest Hemingway
  • Good Behaviour – Molly Keane
  • When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit – Judith Kerr
  • Across the Barricades – Joan Lingard
  • Anne of Green Gables – Lucy Maud Montgomery

  • All Passion Spent – Vita Sackville-West.

About Amaryllis

Amaryllis is our bookshop blogger.

Her pen name is taken from Alice Thomas Ellis’ Other Side of the Fire, which is unfortunately and scandalously out of print. One of the funniest bits in the book is the bodice-ripper that one of the characters is writing and the female - who slays the men with one toss of her raven locks and one glance from her fiery green eyes as she strides among the glens, faithful wolfhound by her side - is Amaryllis! And the name just seemed to suit so here we are.
