About

Lutyens & Rubinstein literary agency was set up in 1993 by former publishers Sarah Lutyensand Felicity Rubinstein who brought together their shared experience of publishing and bookselling on both sides of the Atlantic. They were joined in 2006 by Jane Finigan who became a full partner and co-owner of the agency in 2023. The three partners have worked to establish a close-knit team with a central office in Notting Hill.

Daisy Parente joined the agency in 2008, and Jenny Hewson in 2019; both now run their own lists in association with L&R.

Prema Raj heads up our Rights Department, and Tara Spinks is Head of Finance, working with Lily Evans, Rights and Contracts Assistant. Anna Boyce is an Assistant Agent, working with Sarah, Felicity and Jane. Susannah Godman, who reads for the whole agency and has been with us from the start, is the first port of call for all submissions.

Lutyens & Rubinstein prides itself on its accessible approach and the team works collaboratively to launch and nurture new and established writers.

While the client-list is tightly focused, the range is broad, covering fiction, non-fiction, cookery, children’s, YA and illustrated. Between them, L&R authors have won or been nominated for all the major literary prizes and promotions including Man Booker, Andre Simon, James Beard, the Women’s Prize, Costa, Encore, Samuel Johnson, Baileys, Miles Franklin, Carnegie, Baillie Gifford, Desmond Elliott, Richard & Judy and Waterstones bookclubs and have been bestsellers in the UK and internationally.

In 2009 Lutyens & Rubinstein took the unusual step of opening an independent bookshop which immediately became a much-loved hub for local readers, a destination for international booklovers and was regularly cited as one of the most beautiful bookshops in the world. In 2023 the shop embarked on a new chapter as The L&R Bookshop under the ownership of Daunt Books.
